Sister cities is a concept where towns or cities from geographical & politically distinct arears are paired, with the goal of fostering human contact and cultural links.

The Obu/Port Phillip sister city relationship began in 1993 - the relationship is a fusion of the Australian and Japanese culture. Over the years the relationship has deepened and strengthened with each project, community delegation, staff & student exchange.

Obu City Council and the City of Port Phillip work very hard to maintain the relationship.

The staff exchange programme offers both cities the opportunity to engage with the community in a unique fashion. It extends owenership of the sister city relationship beyond the bounds of council by actively promoting interaction between councils and communities and increasing awareness of the benefits the relationship can bring.

姉妹都市とは地理的にも政治的にも離れている地域の市町が人間同士の交流や文化的な繋がりの発展を目標として提携を結ぶことです。

大府市とポート・フィリップ市の姉妹都市関係は 1993 年に始まりました。この関係ではオーストラリアと日本の文化が融合しています。長年の間、様々な行事、訪問、職員や学校の生徒の交換派遣事業でこの関係は深めてきて、強くなってきました。

この関係を理解するのはそれぞれの文化の相違点と共通点、そしてそれを受け止めることです。地球の反対側にある町の人達にも同じ喜び、悲しみ、経済的な悩み、社会や教育や政治などの問題があると気付くことです。

大府とポート・フィリップの両市はこの関係が継続するために努力しています。

職員交換派遣事業は両市にお互いの市民と独特な形で交流をする機会になっています。姉妹都市交流は行政レベルだけで行うのではなく、市民と行政の協働で行うこと、そして姉妹都市交流の利益を、この職員交換派遣事業から伝わっています。

様々な訪問を通して、お互いの市民に姉妹都市交流の有利を自分で体験してもらって、その交流の市と個人にとっての価値を知ってもらえます。
